ALD is to establish full service leasing operations in Ireland with the acquisition of Merrion Fleet.

ALD has acquired leasing operations specialist Merrion Fleet.

Merrion Fleet is said to be the second largest full service leasing player in Ireland, with approximately 5,500 vehicles.

The deal, made for an undisclosed amount, forms part of ALD’s development strategy, which has also seen the leasing giant announce the acquisition of Spain’s BBVA Autorenting earlier this week, and expands its direct global presence to a total of 42 geographies.

Mike Masterson, CEO of ALD, said: “We are very happy with this acquisition that enables us to expand our coverage in Europe and increase added value for our international customers. We will also bring our financial and innovation capabilities to further develop Merrion Fleet business.”

This agreement is subject to Irish Competition and Consumer Protection Commission approval and is expected to close in the next few weeks.
