Europcar joins Mobility as a Service Alliance

Europcar Mobility Group is reinforcing its work to position itself as a key mobility provider by joining the Mobility as a Service (MaaS) Alliance.

Europcar Mobility Group has joined the MaaS Alliance

Established by a public-private partnership, the MaaS Alliance aims to create a single platform solution to MaaS to enable users to access a wide range of transport options from public transport to car-sharing, taxis and car rental. By developing a single reservation and payment channel, this would eliminate the need to use multiple ticketing and payment services and help drive the mobility market – recognised as both a topical and a critical issue for European cities looking to simultaneously deal with increasing issues surrounding congestion, air quality issues and growing urban populations.

Europcar joins existing MaaS members ranging from major corporates such as Leaseurope and Siemens to cities and regional transport authorities, while the firm’s public affairs director, Jehan de Thé, is also joining the Alliance’s Board of Directors for two years.

The move comes some two months after the group rebranded as Europcar Mobility Group, following its diversification in recent years into offering a wide range of services including chauffeur services, car sharing and peer-to-peer car-sharing.

Caroline Parot, Europcar Mobility Group CEO, said: “Urban mobility issues have changed considerably in recent years. This has prompted us to ramp up our diversification efforts to include new mobility services such as car- and scooter-sharing, chauffeur services, peer-to-peer car rental, etc. We hope to continue supporting this trend by discussing with other public and private players in the sector ideas for new transport solutions, which are simpler, smarter, more economical and more environmentally friendly ways of getting from A to B, and which are real alternatives to owning private cars. We are confident that the collaboration within the MaaS Alliance will contribute to this.”
