Facelifted Skoda Rapid and Rapid Spaceback gain new 1.0 TSI engine

Skoda has revealed its facelifted Rapid and Rapid Spaceback, which are updated with new exterior and interior designs along with a new 1.0 TSI engine and technology.

Skoda Rapid will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Making their debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the hatchbacks, which sit between the Fabia and Octavia, introduced a new 1.0-litre TSI engine with 95hp or 110hp. The lower powered model offers a top speed of 187kph and 0-100ph in 11.0s with official combined fuel consumption of 4.4l/100km and CO2 emissions of 101g/km for both models.

The 110hp engine brings a top speed of 200kph, 0-100kph in 9.8s, official combined fuel consumption of 4.5l/100km and CO2 of 104g/km.

Other engines cover the existing 1.4 TSI, 1.4 TDI and 1.6 TDI units.  All powertrains are equipped with brake energy recovery and start-stop.

The new models also bring tweaked front and rear ends, with intelligent bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights available as an option. The redesign also introduces modified fog lights and a revised bumper while the rear gains black-tinted tail-lights with optional LED technology. The update also introduces new wheel trims, including 16 and 17-inch alloys.

Cabin updates including new door inlays and redesigned air vents, instruments and the control panel for the air-conditioning.

Technology updates bring a WiFi hotspot and the introduction of the optional Skoda Connect services. Also recently introduced to the Octavia, these consist of Infotainment Online and CareConnect services, with the latter offering emergency and breakdown functionality.
