Ford employees have developed a new concept that could help transform ‘last mile’ deliveries.

The concept shows how autonomous vehicles could manage ‘last mile’ deliveries.

Showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona through virtual reality headsets, the concept shows how autonomous vehicles and drones could work hand-in-hand to pick up and drop off goods and packages in urban areas as part of the Last Mile Mobility Challenge. Ford also showed other solutions in the form of the electric rideable platform Carr‑E and the folding electric tricycle TriCiti.

Ford intends to have a fully autonomous, SAE level 4-capable vehicle for commercial application in mobility services such as ride sharing, ride hailing or package delivery fleets in 2021.
