New Skoda Fabia to include 82g/km GreenLine model

Set to make its debut in Paris in October 2014, the new third-generation Fabia will use up to 17% fuel than its predecessor, making it the most environment-friendly and fuel-efficient Fabia of all time. This is helped by a weight reduction of up to 65kg.

The carmaker said that the new model ‘underscores Skoda’s claim to fame when it comes to environment-friendly cars, embodying the company’s clear commitment that environment-conscious mobility must be affordable now and in the future, for the benefit of both customers and the planet’.

The engine line-up will comprise four petrol and three diesel engines – all of which are Euro 6 compliant and feature a start-stop system and kinetic energy recuperation as standards. Transmissions will be either a manual or a DSG double-clutch gearbox.

The diesel models comprise three versions of the new turbocharged direct-injection three-cylinder 1.4-litre common-rail 1.4-litre engine, which replaces the previous 1.6-litre in the second-generation Fabia but offers the same power output ranging from 75PS to 104PS.

Petrol engines comprise three and four-cylinder series based on MQB technology. The 1.0 MPI three-cylinders have indirect injection, while the four-cylinders are 1.2-litre TSI models. Power output ranges from 60PS to 110PS.

From late 2015, the line-up will gain the most fuel-efficient Fabia, the GreenLine version with a 75PS 1.4 TDI engine. Featuring a start-stop system, kinetic energy recuperation and tyres optimised for low rolling resistance as well as improvements to the car’s aerodynamics, the GreenLine offers a fuel consumption figure of 3.1l/100 km, with CO2 emissions of 82g/km.
This will make the Skoda Fabia GreenLine the most environment-friendly ŠKODA with a conventional power plant, surpassed only by the CNG-powered ŠKODA Citigo G-TEC.
