Renault pulls plug on Fluence Z.E. production

Renault has confirmed that it has halted production of its Fluence Z.E. electric car.

The news follows last year’s collapse of Israeli electric car venture Better Place, which was founded to provide a battery-switching solution for electric cars, designed in partnership with Renault. The model was predominantly sold to them in their markets such as Israel and Denmark etc.

According to reports, Renault will close down the production line for it at its Turkish plant but will still produce the Fluence with the permanent rechargeable battery.

In a statement, a company spokesman said that the news would be very likely to impact the viability for the site ‘as it’s still fully occupied producing Clio, Symbol and Fluence (ICE)’.

He added: ‘The model will continue to be produced at the Renault Samsung plant in Busan, Korea, badged SM3 EV.’
