The two businesses will work together on new products and services covering fleet operator solutions as well as for smart cities, multi-storey car parks and the real estate industry.

The partnership follows Siemens’ recent acquisition of a share in Ubitricity during its current investment round, in cooperation with next47, a global venture company formed by Siemens.

In a statement, Siemens Energy Management said Ubitricity’s technology opens completely new business models. The solution is founded on a mobile electricity meter integrated into an intelligent charging cable with secure mobile communication, which automatically activates charging processes, records the consumption data for each specific vehicle and sends these for billing to an energy data platform.

By incorporating technology within the charging cable that is typically installed in charging stations, the solution can enable affordable large-volume installations in real estate and offers simple integration of charging cables in street furniture, such as streetlights – this includes in London where streetlights in Kensington and Chelsea were converted into charge points for electric vehicles under a new trial by Ubitricity along with UK Power Networks and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
