The Toyota–NTT collaboration will focus on addressing issues including traffic accidents, congestion and delivering new mobility services.

The project will focus on addressing issues including traffic accidents, congestion and the delivery of new mobility services, with a field trial planned for 2018.

Areas of collaboration include a platform for data collection, accumulation and analysis, which will also enable the distribution of data and the real-time processing and analysis of Big Data.

The research will also take in IoT (Internet of Things) networks and data centres to secure safe and reliable collection and distribution of large amounts of data, based on assumed vehicle use levels.

Other research areas include connection tests to promote the standardisation of 5G for road vehicles and verify how edge computing technology might be applicable, and looking at providing AI (artificial intelligence) technologies to offer drivers user-friendly services.
