City of Paris launches Mobilib car sharing service

The City of Paris has launched the Mobilib car-sharing service to replace the previous Autolib scheme.

The tender win means that Ubeeqo will be providing a total of nearly 1,100 vehicles in Paris by the end of 2019

Intended to provide drivers with alternatives to car ownership and help reduce pollution through the use of cleaner vehicles, the scheme will offer drivers access to more than 1,200 vehicles on reserved spaces on a ‘round-trip’ scheme.

Following a call for tenders for the parking spaces, four operators have been chosen – Ada, Communauto, Drivy and Ubeeqo – who are already operating more than 300 vehicles. This will rise to 1,200-plus by September, including 500 conventionally powered vehicles and more than 700 plug-in vehicles.

Ubeeqo has won 850 of the on-street parking spaces, which it says will feature vehicles of all categories, with a large proportion of electric and hybrid cars – it will be the only firm running parking spaces with charging facilities. The car sharing giant also said a portion of the Ubeeqo fleet will remain available in underground parking lots.

“The choice of the City of Paris is a great source of pride for Ubeeqo and Europcar Mobility Group. Ubeeqo’s success in recent years clearly demonstrates that our solution meets city dwellers’ new mobility expectations: practical, accessible, and an ever more attractive alternative to individual car ownership,” said Emmanuel Nedelec, head of international development, Ubeeqo.
