The 2017 Mercedes S-Class will introduce a range of new engines, including six-cylinder petrol and diesel units as well as a plug-in hybrid.

Unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show, the facelifted model will see a new in-line six-cylinder diesel engine in 286hp and 340hp outputs replace the V6 for the S 350 and S 400. Emissions start from 145g/km with combined fuel consumption of 5.5 l/100 km.

The updated S-Class will also offer a new 469hp V8 petrol and a new in-line six-cylinder petrol engine that incorporates a 48-volt on-board power supply.
The range will also gain an upgraded plug-in hybrid powertrain with increased battery capacity of 13.3 kWh, giving it an all-electric range of around 50km.

Other updates for the S-Class include enhanced driver assistance systems with the Distronic Active Proximity Assist using GPS data to adjust speeds, along with new 12.3-inch displays for the interior, touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel to control the infotainment system along with wireless charging of smartphones and a new Concierge Service.
