Hyundai is adding a petrol-electric hybrid model to the Kona line-up, bringing CO2 emissions from 90g/km.

Hyundai Kona Hybrid

Launching alongside the existing petrols/diesels from 2017 and the all-electric version that arrived last year, the full hybrid version pairs the 1.6-litre Kappa GDI direct-injection four-cylinder petrol unit with a 43.5hp electric motor powered by a 1.56kWh lithium-ion polymer battery and married up with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The result is a combined 141hp output with up to 265Nm of torque, giving a top speed of 160mph, a 0-62mph time from 11.2 seconds and official combined WLTP fuel economy of 4.3-3.9l/100km.

On-board technology includes Blue Link connectivity features plus an optional infotainment system with 10.25-inch split touchscreen that features Eco-Driving Assist System to help improve fuel economy and Cloud-based voice recognition in six languages plus a free five-year subscription for Hyundai Live Services. The Kona Hybrid also offers SmartSense active safety and driving assistance systems, wireless phone charging and optional head-up display.

The exterior bears little changes apart from the availability of a bespoke Blue Lagoon launch colour and two new alloy choices while the hybrid also gets unique interior colour options.

Order books open in August 2019. Prices are yet to be announced.
