Kia to recall Sorento models in Europe

By / 3 years ago / News / No Comments

Kia has announced a recall of around 5,700 Sorento cars in the UK and Europe for an update to the eCall system.

All work will be carried out in line with social distancing measures and in accordance with specific country restrictions

The recall applies to Sorento models produced between 1 September and 14 December 2020; in total 5,738 cars sold in Europe are affected.

The system should normally transmit the vehicle identification number (VIN) to the emergency call centre in the event of an accident. However, the current glitch means that this won’t happen if an airbag is deployed in one of the affected vehicles.

No injuries or accidents are believed to have been caused by the issue.

The fix – which is being carried out free of charge – just needs a simple reset of the eCall system by dealers to ensure the VIN is transmitted accurately when appropriate.

All work will be carried out in line with social distancing measures and in accordance with specific country restrictions.

A spokesperson for Kia UK said: “We are grateful for our customers’ cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience caused by this issue.”
