London waste management firm goes zero-emission with BD electric tippers
Waste management firm Lawmens has deployed 10 BD electric tippers, supporting its provision of zero-emission services in the London area.
The 4.5t tippers have been supplied by electric vehicle supplier and manufacturer BD Auto and Energy Ltd (BEDEO) and are based on a Fiat e-Ducato chassis cab with bodies by Tipmaster and BEDEO’s inhouse electric drivetrain solution.
The tippers provide a payload of 1,125kg and a range of 160km (100 miles) in heavy-use working conditions. They can be fully charged overnight or a 60-100% charge can be reached in two hours via three-phase power.
“As a business we hold the protection of our environment in the highest regards, not only in our commitment to divert 100% of waste way from landfill but also ensuring we do this in the most sustainable manner possible. Therefore, we are very pleased to take delivery of our new 100% electric BD Tippers and we will be actively promoting our zero-emission services to all our clients in the London area. This is a new era not only for us but for all business fleets and we are proud to lead the way,” said John Law, owner and founder of the Lawmens UK Group.
The deal with Lawmens is part of BEDEO’s ongoing work to offer zero-emission solutions to businesses, supported by a range of current incentives for fleets making the switch.
Chris Jones, head of sales, said: “Our large e-Ducato models are 100% electrically powered and are eligible for both the Government Plug-in Van Grant and a 100% congestion charge discount ensuring that operating costs are very competitive. With the London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) expanding in October 2021, the now higher daily congestion zone charges and the current issues surrounding air quality this is definitely the time for fleet managers to take action to move to electric power.”
