The new Navara – on sale now across Europe – features upgraded suspension to improve ride and handling, as well as a heavier payload due to Intelligent Sway Assist technology, and front and rear disc brakes as standard for more stopping power.

The engine has also gotten a boost, with the twin-turbo 2.3L diesel (Euro 6d-TEMP) engine serving up either 163 or 190hp, and the entry-level engine gets an extra 22Nm torque to 425Nm, thanks to the twin-scroll replacing the old single turbo. Despite the improved power, fuel economy is now rated at 6.9-7.0l/100km (NEDC Correlated) and emissions start from 182g/km. NOx emissions are also said to be lower, thanks to the use of SCR technology.

Navara’s all-new six speed manual transmission is manufactured in Europe and is the first application globally, and is said to be more refined and more logical than previous, as well as offering improved fuel economy with new gear ratios. There has also been further tuning of the 7-speed automatic transmission, with improvements to comfort, refinement and responsiveness.

The King Cab sees an increase in payload of 55-95kg (depending on specification),with a new payload of 1,165kg (and Permissible Total Weight of 3,200kg). The Double Cab meanwhile sees a payload increase of 54-114kg (depending on specification), taking total payloads to 1,115–1,180kg and a Permissible Total Weight of 3,250kg.

Other notable new features for this year’s model include Intelligent Trailer Sway Assist. This new system anticipates trailer sway by detecting yaw in the vehicle and making minute corrections in individual wheel braking and torque reduction to bring the vehicle and trailer back under control. Intelligent Emergency Braking, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control and Intelligent Around View Monitor are again included, cementing the Navara’s status as an all-purpose pick-up that packs the latest technology. The wheel size has also been increased from 16 to 17 inches on lower grades.

Nissan has overhauled the interior with the inclusion of a new NissanConnect infotainment system that allows the ‘mirroring’ of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the 8.0-inch screen with multi-touch control and faster response times. This accompanies the NissanConnect Services app, that features a telematics control unit and built-in 4G device that allows data to be shared without a separate phone connection. Built-in sat nav includes TomTom Maps with OTA updates, alongside live traffic, weather and Google Satellite and Street View capabilities. The app also includes remote horn and light control and remote vehicle locator.

Higher grade models feature updated LED headlamps with a high gloss black inner shell replacing the previous chromed part of the design. The Navara also includes a pan-European 5 year / 100,000-mile warranty as standard.
