Built on the latest CMP platform, the all-new Peugeot 208 is 30kg lighter than previous and come with a range of petrol and diesel engines that meet the latest emissions standards, including the PureTech petrol three-cylinder 1.2-litre 75, 100 and 130 engines and the BlueHDI diesel 1.5-litre 100. The entry-level 75 model will come with a 5-speed manual, while a 6-speed manual is available on the mid-range 100 petrol and diesel, in addition to an 8-speed automatic on the 100 petrol and range-topping 130.

Powered by a 134hp motor, the five-door Peugeot e-208 will be the next electric model available from the French brand following on from the ageing Peugeot Ion, and features a 50kWh battery pack that’s good for up to 211 miles electric range (WLTP). The battery is capable of accepting a 100kW charge that should ensure 0-80% charge in around 30 minutes at compatible charge points. Charging can also be done via the Connected 3D Navigation colour touchscreen or by using the MyPeugeot smartphone app. Eco, Normal and Sport modes provide the car with a split personality too. The e-208 is the first in a series of 100% electric models, as Peugeot prepares to electrify its entire range by 2023.

Peugeot is additionally introducing a host of EV services, including: a range of at-home or office charging solutions; public charge offering via Free2Move Services; a trip planner; use of an internal combustion powered car when needed; e-coaching; and a battery capacity certificate come resale time.

Peugeot’s Driver Assist includes: Adaptive Cruise Control; Lane Positioning Assist; Full Park Assist (with the 8-speed auto); AEB; Active Lane Keeping Assist; Driver Attention Monitoring; automatic headlight dipping; Speed Limit Recognition and Recommendation; Extended traffic sign recognition; Active Blind Spot Monitoring; and an electric parking brake.

Beauty is, of course, in the eye of the beholder, but Peugeot has added a distinctive new design to the car including a full LED ‘three-claw’ light signature on the front and rear, and a dichroic colour changing Lion brandished on the front of the electric version, while bright yellow, red and blue colour options offer a welcome break from the usual humdrum grey. Inside, the new Peugeot 3D i-Cockpit offers a multifunction steering wheel, configurable head-up display, 7- or 10-inch colour touchscreen and the 7 satin chrome ‘piano’ toggle switches.

208 orders open to the public ahead of release in late Summer 2019.
