Opel has introduced two new engines for the Astra that sit in line with the latest Euro 6d-TEMP requirements.

The 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines of the Opel Astra now meet the Euro 6d-TEMP standard.

Being launched for both Hatch and Sports Tourer bodystyles, the new engines cover a 200hp 1.6-litre turbo petrol and a 136hp 1.6-litre CDTi.

The petrol is comes with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. It brings official combined fuel economy of 6.5-6.2 l/100 km combined and 151-144 g/km CO2 and has a top speed of 235kph and a 0-100kph time of 7.8 seconds for the hatch.

The diesel also comes with either a manual or automatic transmission and brings official figures of 4.6-4.4 l/100 km combined, 121-116 g/km CO2 for the manual. It comes with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology with AdBlue.

Prices in Germany (including VAT) for the Opel Astra 1.6 Turbo start at€26,495 and€27,495 respectively for the hatchback and the Sports Tourer while the Astra 1.6 D starts at €25,770 (including VAT).

The move comes just weeks after Opel announced that it’s adding equipping the 1.6-litre Insignia diesel with an SCR system to optimise the exhaust after-treatment for Euro 6d-TEMP.

The brand said the majority of Opel model variants already meet Euro 6d-TEMP, including through the launch of new engines, such as the new 1.5-litre diesel taken from parent firm PSA’s stable and now offered in the Grandland X to replace the previous diesel.
