Revealed earlier this summer, the GLB sits above the GLA, marking the eighth model in the brand’s compact car family and bringing a standard five-seat layout with an optional seven-seat set-up.

Priced from €37,746.80 in Germany, it’s offered – depending on market – in two petrol variants. These include the GLB 200, powered by a 163hp, 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine bringing a 0-100km/h time of 9.1 seconds, a 207km/h top speed, with WLTP combined fuel economy of 6.0-6.2l/100km and NEDC Correlated emissions 138-142g/km. A 7G-DCT gearbox comes as standard along with front-wheel drive. There’s also a GLB 250 4 model with a 224hp 2.0-litre petrol, offering official WLTP combined fuel consumption of 7.3-7.4l/100km and CO2 of 166-169g/km with a 6.9-second 0-100km/h time and top speed of 236km/h.

Diesels include the front-wheel drive GLB 180 d with a 116hp 2.0-litre diesel, 4.9-5.0l/100km and 129-132g/km and the GLB 200 d – available with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive – which features a higher-power 150hp version of the same diesel with a 0-100km/h time of 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 204km/h in front-wheel drive guise. The latter can deliver 4.9-5.0l/100km WLTP combined and emits 129-133g/km CO2 NEDC Correlated (4MATIC: 4.2-5.5l/100km and 136-145g/km).

The range-topping GLB 220 d 4MATIC is powered by a 190hp, four-cylinder diesel engine that gives a 0-100km/h time of 7.6 seconds, and a 271km/h top speed. Fuel economy figures and emissions figures for this engine are 5.2-5.5l/100km (WLTP combined) and 138-146g/km CO2 NEDC Correlated. All three diesels are RDE2-compliant.

4MATIC models feature the Offroad Engineering package as standard. This includes Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR) and an additional driving mode.

Three equipment lines are on offer in selected markets: Style (an extra €892.50), Progressive (€1,814.75) and AMG Line (€3,510.50) and the Night package (€505.75).

In the first year it can also be ordered as an Edition 1 (a €9,044 uplift) which brings various extra styling details.

Driver assistance features include active brake assist, active bonnet, active lane keeping assist, attention assist, speed limit assist, and keyless-go locking and unlocking.

The GLB range is on sale now with first deliveries expected towards the end of the year.
