Refreshed Iveco Daily to bring lower running costs and new connectivity services

Iveco has revealed its refreshed Daily commercial vehicle, which brings updated engines to offer enhanced fuel efficiency along with new connectivity features and a range of advanced driver assistance systems.

Unveiled at a global event in Turin, Italy, the new model is said to be the first in its segment to offer engines that comply with the Euro 6D-Temp emissions standard and bring up to 10% fuel savings in urban settings and up to 10% maintenance cost reduction.

It will also bring a renewed focus on connectivity features through the Daily Business Up app, launched in 2016 and bringing features including driving behaviour analysis as well as connecting with Iveco’s Control Room to provide real-time data, including proactive diagnostics.

In addition, the Remote Assistance Service makes it possible to carry out dataset changes, diagnostics sessions and even software uploads remotely over the air, avoiding vehicle downtime.

The data can also be used to assess vehicle usage and adjust financing payments if the vehicle is used less than originally expected, as well as developing more tailored maintenance contracts.

Telematics solutions also include the MyDaily portal, also accessible through the MyDaily app, which enables vehicle owners to monitor their Daily from their desktop computer or on the move from their mobile device. They can analyse its performance and fuel consumption, as well as the driver’s driving style. The Daily will also send regular Smart Reports on the vehicle’s key parameters with suggestions on how to improve the driving style to save fuel. Customers can also plan the Daily’s service intervals.

Fleets can also opt for factory-fit telematics technology from Verizon Connect, which will bring navigation, fleet visibility, advanced engine diagnostics and near real-time mileage reporting. Meanwhile, customers who already have their own fleet management system can receive all the new Daily’s data through its web API interface.

The new Daily debuts latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, with a particular focus on urban driving. The Advanced Emergency Braking System and City Brake Pro system has been designed to prevent collisions at speeds below 50km/h (31mph) and mitigates the impact at higher speeds. It autonomously detects the potential for a collision ahead and brakes accordingly if the driver doesn’t intervene, ensuring their safety. The City Brake Pro also operates to prevent accidents when driving as slowly as 5km/h (3mph).

Other technology includes Queue Assist, which operates slow-moving queues up to a standstill, eliminating the stress of stop-start traffic; Iveco says the New Daily is the first 7.2-tonne vehicle to offer the Queue Assist and City Brake Pro functionalities. And the Daily is also available with Adaptive Cruise Control, ProActive Lane Keeping Assist and Crosswind Assist. Technology also includes an electric parking brake, new LED lights, City Mode power steering assistance, along with Hill Descent Control and Traction Plus; said to mark a segment-first for rear-wheel drive vehicles.

Engine line-up includes a 2.3-litre diesel, now available in both light and heavy-duty guises, with rated power ranging from 116 to 156hp.The 3.0-litre heavy-duty engine offers three power ratings with increased performance ranging from 160 to 210hp, as well as a Natural Power compressed natural gas version in applicable markets.

Helped by the Start&Stop system, which is now available as standard on all models running the 2.3-litre engine, including the Daily Hi-Matic, Class A Super Eco Low Rolling tyres specifically designed for the Daily and the new 220A (12V) alternator, the new Daily delivers up to a claimed 10% in fuel savings.

Onboard tech on offer includes a TFT high-resolution colour display plus a Hi-Connect infotainment system with voice recognition and Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity as well as seven-inch screen, DAB radio, rear camera display, and TomTom car and truck navigation system.
