The Spanish true fleet sector saw “phenomenal” results last month, scoring not only its highest-ever volume but also growth rate.

The Jeep Compass rose 1569.6% in August

Figures published by Gabriel Juhas at Dataforce show the sector rose 48.8% in August, helping the total market rise 48.3% to around 112,000 registrations. The rest of the market also performed well with private registrations up by 26.6% and Special Channels rising 135.2%.

Within the true fleet brand top 10, Volkswagen remained first, helped by strong performances of the Tiguan, T-Roc and Polo, while Renault retained the second slot with a 41.8% rise. Nissan in third was the second highest grower (+142.5%) thanks to the SUV line-up of Qashqai, X-Trail and Juke, followed in fourth by Audi. Fiat scored a 504.6% growth for August, putting it in fifth, helped by the 500, Tipo, 500L, 500X and Panda.

BMW, Peugeot and Toyota were the next on the ladder respectively; all had a positive month (to varying degrees) but none retained their respective position from last year. Mercedes was down by 9.3%, marking the fifth month of contraction in 2018 and the eight month of negative growth in the Spanish fleet market over the last 12 months. Seat completed the top 10 with an 8.0% increase, led by the Arona.

Within the vehicle segments, the SUV sector continued to shine and was up by 90.6%, accounting for more than double the volume of the next nearest segment, which was compact cars. In fact, the compact SUV segment alone accounted for more than its (Compact) Car counterpart, showing a standout growth rate of 121.1%. Although the Nissan Qashqai (ranked first), Peugeot 3008 (ranked joint fourth), Toyota C-HR (ranked seventh), Mini Countryman (ranked 11th) and the Renault Kadjar (ranked joint 13th) all registered triple-digit growth rates, the shining star was the Jeep Compass, which came in third, with a growth of 1569.6%, and less than hundred registrations behind the much-better established VW Tiguan.
