Toyota was the highest grower in percentage terms in Spain’s true fleet sector in May

In fact, analysis by Dataforce’s Richard Worrow found that since January 2014 there has been only eight months of non-double-digit growth – and January 2014 was also the last time a negative growth month was recorded in Spanish fleet.

The private market had a similar month to fleet with a 12.3% rise and special channels were down 1.9%. Overall, the total market recorded 141,000 registrations, up 7.4% in terms of growth.

Within the true fleet top 10 brand table, VW remained first while Renault also stayed in second, though it was all change in the rest of the ranking. Peugeot in third jumped three places while the Partner model (including the all-new Rifter) was their top model for the first month ever, helping the brand to a healthy 27.4% growth.

Fourth-placed Toyota was the highest grower in percentage terms with a 31.1% rise, thanks mostly to the Prius Plus. Audi and Mercedes were the next two brands in the ranking, Audi with a slight downturn while Mercedes was up by 19.4%. Seat also had a good month thanks to the Arona and the Ateca, with the brand recording a 29.1% rise for May.

BMW came in at rank #8 and Ford at #10 but both saw double-digit downturns. Opel was ninth with a 31.0% rise, as a result of the Crossland X, the Grandland X and the Mokka.

Dataforce also looked into the true fleet small and mini car segments, both of which (year-to-date) are firmly on the rise, by 16.0% and 102.3% respectively. However, both segments are proving particularly strong in Madrid, which takes 53.4% of the small car market and 62.1% for mini cars. Small cars in Madrid accounted for 66.4% of the YTD growth and for Mini Cars this stood at 87.4%, probably driven by the popularity of carsharing in the Spanish capital.
