SUV-inspired Ford Focus Active to launch

Ford is to launch Active variants of its fourth-generation five-door and wagon Focus in Europe as it targets SUV and crossover customers.

The Focus Active includes Slippery and Trail Selectable Drive Modes

Available to order, the new variant extends Ford’s Active crossover models, following the introduction of the all-new Fiesta Active (see road test here) and new KA+ Active models earlier this year.

As with its siblings, the Focus Active brings a raised ride height and driving position, and SUV-inspired styling including standard roof rails. It also features a bespoke chassis set-up and new Slippery and Trail Selectable Drive Modes.

Engine options include the 1.0-litre EcoBoost and 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol units and Ford’s 1.5-litre EcoBlue and 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engines – combined with six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions.

Onboard technologies include Ford’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment technology supported by an eight-inch colour touchscreen and compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Drivers can also specify a B&O audio system while new FordPass Connect onboard modem technology for the Focus turns the Active into a mobile WiFi hotspot with connectivity for up to 10 devices. A wireless charging pad is also available.

Advanced driver assistance features echo those seen on the latest Focus launched earlier this year and include more advanced versions of Ford’s Adaptive Cruise Control, Adaptive Front Lighting System and Active Park Assist technologies.

Roelant de Waard, vice president, marketing, sales & Service. Ford of Europe, said: “Ford SUV sales grew more than 19 per cent in October year over year, and SUVs now account for more than one in five Ford vehicles sold in Europe. Our Active family of crossover models offers a further compelling SUV-style option for customers. The all-new Focus Active does more than just look the part – its bespoke chassis and new Selectable Drive Mode options deliver genuine rough-road capability for families who want to explore off the beaten track.”
