Škoda is to unveil a new concept at Geneva combining natural gas, petrol and electric drive as it pushes ahead with plans to launch hybrid and battery-powered models in various segments by 2025.

The urban crossover concept combines a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and petrol-powered drivetrain and two electric motors, bringing CO2 emissions from 89g/km along with instant torque delivery.

The concept uses a 1.5-litre TSI G-TEC four-cylinder turbocharged engine specifically designed for use with CNG, delivering 130hp to the front axle along with an electric motor while an electric motor providing 1,000Nm of torque drives the rear axle, powered by a 48 volt lithium-ion battery system and activated as and when needed, including on start-up. The motor can run for up to 2km solely on electric power. 0-100km/h time is 9.3 seconds with a top speed of 200km/h.

The model has a range of up to 650km thanks to the additional petrol reserve tank.
