The new T-Roc Cabriolet  will ‘bring the roof down’ at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) from 12 to 22 September, followed by a launch in spring 2020.

Following in the footsteps of the Beetle and Golf, Volkswagen says the new car’s electric-folding roof takes just 9 seconds and can close at speeds up to 30km/h. The soft top unlocks and locks electromechanically.

Adding an element of safety even when the roof is down, the T-Roc Cabriolet features a reinforced windscreen frame and roll-over protection that springs up behind the rear seats within a fraction of a second in the event of an incident.

Two petrol turbo engines power the T-Roc Cabrio, including a 1.0-litre 115hp three-cylinder and a 1.5-litre 150hp four-cylinder unit driving the front wheels. A manual six-speed comes as standard, while a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox is offered an an option.

The car will be available with either Style or R-Line trim specifications, with the latter offering a more sports-oriented design with elements as standard that are options on the non-drop-top T-Roc.
