The ‘Flex Pilot’ operation will run on the evenings of 14-16 December in the city centre of the state capital of Baden-Württemberg and will initially offer an on-demand ridesharing serviced offering a total of 10 Mercedes-Benz V-Class cars. These will be available to book and use free of charge via an app that will pool requests, enabling ridesharing within an area of around 30 square kilometres.

Based on the moovel on-demand platform, the final service will launch in the first half of 2018 and will be run with SSB as operating company. The service will show all public transport travel options in the VVS area in the app together with all possible combinations with the “SSB Flex” shuttle and all options can be booked and paid for directly in the app.

Wolfgang Arnold, technical director and board spokesman of the Stuttgarter Strassenbahnen AG, said: “We want to supplement the existing bus and train services with flexible, customer-friendly solutions and thus close any spatial and temporal gaps in the service. Our goal is to encourage an ever increasing number of inhabitants to use local public transport.”
