2023 Volkswagen Touareg to get updated chassis and Innovision Cockpit
Volkswagen has previewed its facelifted Touareg ahead of a full reveal this summer.
The premium SUV is getting a mid-life revamp that will give a comprehensive technical and visual update following the arrival of the third-generation model in 2018.
Pictures of the disguised prototype currently completing final tests near the Artic Circle reveal some details, including the newly developed IQ.Light HD matrix headlights, which use 38,400 micro LEDs to project “an interactive carpet of light” into the lane of the luxury SUV.
The updated Touareg will also gain an LED light strip integrated between the headlights, as seen in other models, while it also becomes the first VW model in Europe with an illuminated logo on the rear.
Updates to the chassis introduce a roof load sensor, networked with the chassis electronics to recognise if a roof box is installed and update assistance systems such as ESC accordingly.
VW has also updated settings for the standard steel spring suspension and optional two-chamber air suspension for optimum performance.
Interior revisions include softer materials for the armrests and centre console panels and the latest ‘Innovision Cockpit’. This combines a 15-inch central touchscreen, multifunction steering wheel and analogue elements such as the volume control in the centre. New features include lane-precise navigation and high-resolution HD map data. Voice control has also been further developed and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration is now wireless.
Powertrain details are yet to be announced but the Touareg R eHybrid plug-in hybrid remains the range topper.
