A pilot for a multi-modal electric mobility service, spanning shared cars, private hire vehicles and buses, has launched in the city of Nagpur, India.

End-users will be able to book shared electric cars, taxis, buses and rickshaws through a single app.

Supported by mobility app, Ola, and Indian EV manufacturer Mahindra, the project will make various forms of transport available through a single app, and is supported by Ola’s own 50-unit charging network located throughout the city.

At launch, the fleet will comprise 200 vehicles, half of which will be the Mahindra e20 Plus electric city car, with the rest comprising Tata Motors, Kinetic, BYD, TVS and other manufacturers’ models. The state of Maharashtra has also waived VAT, road tax, registration for electric vehicles to help with the roll-out.

Bhavish Aggarwal, co-founder and CEO of Ola, said, “India has the need as well as the potential to set a global example on electric adoption to power its mobility needs. We believe that electric mobility in a multi-modal format, will be key towards realizing our mission of building mobility for a billion Indians.”
