Audi begins driverless car test in Florida

The carmaker demonstrated its Piloted driving technology in an adapted A7 yesterday (28th July), which can drive itself on a freeway at speeds of up to 40mph.

Audi said it expects to have the Traffic Jam Pilot function available in its range within five years, following tests such us this, and said that real-world trials are an essential part of the development process.

Florida is one of only four states which allow driverless cars on the roads, alongside California, Michigan and Nevada, aimed at helping manufacturers to invest and test the technology in real traffic, as well as attracting engineers, scientists and students to the area.
