Available solely as a five-door, the A1 is now larger than before – up to 4m long – bringing an extra 65 litres of boot space while it also puts an increased focus on customisation. Trim line-up – depending on market – brings basis, advanced or S line specs but drivers can also choose from ‘Interior advanced’, ‘Interior design selection’ and ‘Interior S line’ themes for the cabin.

The A1 also becomes the latest model to drop diesel from the range, instead offering a choice of TFSI petrol engines from 95 to 200hp – each with turbo, direct injection and a particulate filter as standard and a choice of manual or seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.

The cabin features a new 10.25-inch infotainment display and a multifunction steering wheel as standard, with Audi virtual cockpit an option. The MMI radio plus is standard and has been inherited from larger Audi models. Audi smartphone integration is available, enabling iOS and Android connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Lane departure warning, speed limiter and Audi pre sense front are all standard. Adaptive cruise control is optional.

Order books open in the summer and deliveries in Europe start from the autumn. Pricing in Germany starts from under €20,000.
