Audi to reveal near-production Q8 concept at Detroit
Audi is to preview its forthcoming Q8 luxury SUV with a near-production concept at the coming Detroit motor show.
Announced two years ago, the model will top the Q model line-up and take on rivals such as the GLS and Range Rover Sport.
The Q8 sits on the same platform as the A7 and according to the brand brings the “typical spaciousness of an SUV with the elegance of a coupé”. Engine line-up will include a plug-in hybrid versions.
Design sketches of the concept show a wider version of Audi’s octagonal Singleframe along with design elements from the Audi Ur-quattro of the 1980s.
“With the Audi Q8 concept, we have created a new spearhead within our Q model line. Its design strongly evokes sportiness and prestige,” said Audi head of design Marc Lichte. “What’s more, we believe an important aspect of this showcar is that it offers a spacious interior with four equally comfortable seats, even with the flat roof line.”
