Owing to a more streamlined production process and economies of scale, General Motors has been reducing the price of the Chevrolet Volt and Vauxhall/Opel Ampera in markets across the world.

As a result, the Volt’s sister car, the Opel Ampera, is now available priced from $38,300 (£32,500) including VAT in Germany, while North American buyers are being offered a $5,000 (£3,100) reduction on the Volt. Chevrolet has yet to announce similar plans in the UK, but is likely to do so shortly.

Thomas Sedran, president and managing director, Chevrolet Europe, said: ‘The lower price and cost savings from driving on electricity provide Volt owners a unique balance of technology, capability and cost of ownership. The latest Volt model will offer the same impressive list of features as before, plus Chevrolet’s new MyLink connected radio.’
