China’s Xpeng continues European expansion with UK launch
Chinese electric car brand Xpeng has officially launched in the UK, starting first with its G6 SUV-coupé.
The business, founded in 2014, styles itself as a Chinese-born global-orientated high-tech automotive company and has big plans for its launch in one of the world’s biggest automotive and EV markets.
First to arrive is the Xpeng G6; a rival to the Tesla Model Y focused on “meeting the evolving needs of UK and European consumers”.
Its all-wheel-drive powertrain delivers a 0-62mph time of less than four seconds and a range of up to 354 miles while 800V architecture gives ultra-rapid charging at speeds of up to 280kW, enabling a 10 to 80% recharge in less than 20 minutes. Xpeng also promises next-generation operating systems and premium features to set “a new benchmark in electric mobility for UK drivers”.
Available in both Standard Range and Long Range versions, it’s priced from £39,990 and starts deliveries in March 2025.
Xpeng’s “AI-defined future mobility ecosystem” also includes plans for further UK EV launches and even a flying car.
Other models on the horizon include the G9 flagship SUV, X9 seven-seater MPV and the eVTOL X2 flying car developed by Xpeng AEROHT, an Xpeng subsidiary and Asia’s largest eVTOL company.
Xpeng debuts in the UK after signing a distribution deal with International Motors Ltd (IML), which already works with Isuzu, Subaru and GWM.
It’s also creating a network of “strong” dealer partners “who are passionate about the EV transition” to enable customers to experience the brand and its products. In total, 20 retailers are set to be appointed in 2025 along with a wider aftersales network. A further expansion in 2026 as sales volumes increase could see up to 40 dealers by the close of that year.
The business also signed two strategic partnerships in January, linking with Volkswagen and BP Pulse to create a super-fast charging network and also explore cutting-edge solutions together.
The UK is a crucial step in Xpeng’s internationalisation strategy. Not only has it become the largest EV market in Europe in 2024, but it is also one of the most significant right-hand-drive markets worldwide.
“Our launch in the UK, in partnership with International Motors Ltd (IML), marks a significant step in Xpeng’s European and global expansion,” said Brian Gu, vice chairman and president of Xpeng.
“We are excited to bring a new era of smarter, more sustainable mobility to the UK market and globally. With Xpeng’s cutting-edge proprietary technology – ranging from futuristic design and impressive range to ultra-fast charging – we are confident that our vehicles will resonate with UK consumers, offering exceptional quality, innovation and an outstanding driving experience.”
Xpeng first entered Europe in Norway in 2021 and is now present in 14 markets with plans for more expansion. At the end of 2025, the brand aims to expand its presence in more than 60 countries and regions.
