Citroën retires Grand C4 Spacetourer from range
Citroën has discontinued the Grand C4 Spacetourer on the back of nearly 30 years of MPV sales, switching focus to newer models.
Production of the Grand C4 SpaceTourer at the Vigo site in Spain will cease early July after honouring the current portfolio of orders.
In the last 30 years, Citroën has sold almost 4.5 million MPVs around the world. Its involvement in the sector dates back to 1994 with the launch of the Evasion, followed by the larger C8 in 2002. The Xsara Picasso arrived in 1999 and ran through until 2012 while in 2006, the C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso were added to the range, followed by the smaller entry-level C3 Picasso from 2009 to 2019.
Launched in 2014 and restyled in 2016, the Grand C4 SpaceTourer has notched up sales from 352,243 customers, favoured for its design and comfort, along with internal versatility and space.
It leaves the model line-up due to changing buyer patterns that have seen drivers migrate away from MPVs and turn to SUVs and crossovers.
Instead, the brand will focus on models such as the C5 Aircross or C5 X, along with its ë-Berlingo and ë-SpaceTourer electric models.
Citroën has already axed the C1 city car earlier this year – again, due to changing buyer trends.
