Cupra to launch three new electrified models by 2025

Cupra is expanding its line-up with three new electrified models by 2025, entering new segments and bolstering its growth plans.

Showcased at its ‘Unstoppable Impulse’a media event in Terramar, Spain, the “new heroes for a new era” will underpin its ambition to become an electric-only brand by 2030 and to move into new markets. They’ll also help advance its sales from the current 200,000 achieved since the brand was hived off from SEAT four years ago and propel it to a planned 500,000 units a year.

The new arrivals will be spearheaded by the Terramar SUV, due 2024 and expanding its current line-up of e-Hybrid plug-in hybrid models.

Named after the Spain town in Sitges, it will be produced in Hungary at Audi’s Györ plant as the sister model to the next-generation Audi Q3 and will move Cupra “to the hot spot of the SUV segment”.

It will be available with conventional petrol engines – the final Cupra to do so – as well as a new generation of plug-in hybrid powertrains said to deliver around 62 miles (100km) in all-electric mode.

This will be followed by the Tavascan coupé-SUV, first revealed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and said to remain faithful to the concept car. It’ll become the brand’s second fully electric car.

Hot on its heels, the UrbanRebel electric supermini will arrive in 2025 as “an emotional, high-performance urban vehicle”.

It will be designed and developed in Barcelona and produced in the new Martorell plant, using the Volkswagen Group’s MEB Small platform, also expected to underpin the Volkswagen ID.2, and measuring in at a compact 4.03m long.

A 226hp electric motor will power it to 62mph (100km/h) in 6.9 seconds and it will deliver up to 273 miles / 440km in the long-range version.

During the event, Cupra also hinted at the future versions of the current range – Leon, Formentor and Born – which will be renewed by 2025.
