Daimler’s car2go launches in Brooklyn
The launch, which takes place on 25th October, marks Brooklyn as car2go's 29th market and the first point-to-point carsharing service in the New York City Area.
The scheme will initially offer 400 eco-friendly smart fortwo car2go edition vehicles for shared use, allowing members to use the service by the minute, 24 hours a day, seven days a week – without committing to a specific return time or dedicated location.
To locate a car2go vehicle, members will be able to find the nearest one via the car2go smartphone app, the car2go website, or simply by finding an available car on the street anywhere within the 36-square mile car2go Brooklyn Home Area.
The initial car2go Home Area, where members can pick up or drop off a car2go, covers approximately 36 square miles, and will include neighbourhoods such as Williamsburg, Park Slope, Red Hook, Coney Island and Sunset Park, among others. Members will be able to explore outside of the Home Area, including Queens, Manhattan, Hoboken, and Jersey City, but must come back “Home” to end their trip.
In addition, car2go is currently offering free membership, along with 30 minutes of drive time credit at Brooklyn.car2go.com using promotional code BKLYN.
‘With its singular history, distinct culture and unparalleled diversity, Brooklyn exemplifies a way of life that is a perfect fit for our service,’ said Paul DeLong, CMO of car2go North America. ‘We're fired up to finally provide Brooklynites with a unique, technologically-advanced, on-demand service that not only fits the dynamic environment in which they thrive in, but provides a flexible convenience that's essential to their vibrant lifestyle.’
