A new online tool that will help fleets ensure they have a robust Driving for Work policy in place will make its debut at tomorrow’s Great British Fleet Event.

The Driving for Better Business team will be on the stand at GBFE to demonstrate the new policy builder tool

Developed by Driving for Better Business (DfBB), a free-to-access government-backed National Highways programme, it’s aimed at all operators – including those looking to create a policy from scratch, along with fleets looking to ensure their existing policy is water-tight and meets the required legal and compliance standards.

Benefits include access to a ready-made driving for work policy template, in-depth information on driver, vehicle and journey management, plus specific guidance on managing grey fleet drivers.

Users also get regular updates on latest legal and compliance issues and an automatic reminder to review their policy in 12 months – enabling them to focus on their day-to-day role, without worrying about missing any legal responsibilities.

There are almost 40,000 injuries on Britain’s roads each year that involve someone who was driving for work. Benefits from a comprehensive driving for work policy including keeping staff and other road users safe as well as helping to control business costs – but a driving for work policy is also a legal requirement for all businesses with employees who drive on business.

The law says all companies must have policies and procedures to minimise risk – and that includes the recognised risks around driving. In the event of a serious incident, you could be asked to prove what you do to promote driver safety and your fleet’s driving for work policy is how you demonstrate your commitment to doing this well.

But visitors to tomorrow’s Great British Fleet Event, taking place on 17 April at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, will be to meet the DfBB team and talk about the new tool’s many features.

The Driving for Better Business team will be on the stand to demonstrate the new policy builder tool and discuss all areas of fleet risk management – and discuss DfBB’s other tools, which include fleet benchmarking, gap analysis, a Van Driver Toolkit, podcasts and the #CALMDriver scheme with Campaign Against Living Miserably.

And Simon Turner, campaign manager for DfBB, will also be speaking as part of the Masterclass Conference programme of thought leadership. Turner will be part of the Fleet Management session and will give expert guidance on how to create a good practice fleet policy.
