Environment still a key focus for larger fleets

The annual fleet research interviewed more than 4,500 fleet decision makers across 15 countries and asked respondents for the most important criteria to them when selecting a vehicle. While understandably cost factors were at the top of the list, 16% of businesses with 1,000 or more employees stated the environmental impact of the vehicle.

Although nowhere near a majority, it does mean that 16% of businesses are willing to pay a price premium to ensure that their vehicles are environmentally friendly. This is more than their European peers and shows a commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Mike Waters, senior insight & consultancy manager at Arval in the UK, commented: ‘It’s a prerequisite that company vehicles are fit for purpose but additional to that, different businesses will have different requirements of their vehicle fleet. This shows that for a good number of larger businesses the environment remains a key focus and one that they prioritise over all others.’

He added: ‘Selecting environmentally friendly vehicles often has a positive impact on running costs and can also support company reputation. We have seen cases where the environmental credentials of a fleet have helped that company to win new business.’
