The organisation’s latest figures show that registrations rose for the eighth consecutive month in April, up by 4.6%. However, the ACEA noted that the market is still down on pre-recession figures. In absolute figures, the total of 1,089,226 units registered marked the third lowest result to date for a month of March since ACEA began the series in 2003 with the enlarged EU.

In April 2014, Germany was the only major market to face a downturn (-3.6%). All other significant markets saw growth, ranging from +1.9% in Italy, +5.8% in France, +8.2% in the UK to +28.7% in Spain.

The April results boosted the year-to-date figure, which is up by 7.4% to 4,336,013 units. All major markets posted growth, ranging from 2.9% in Germany, 3.7% in France, 5.0% in Italy to 12.5% in the UK and 16.2% in Spain.
