The C-Class fared particularly well in the adult occupant test, with a score of 92%, whilst it achieved 84% for child occupant and 77% for pedestrian.

It also received a score of 70% for safety assist, with Euro NCAP noting that the Mercedes is fitted with a seatbelt reminder system for front and rear as standard along with ESC and the Collision Prevention Assist PLUS autonomous braking system. A driver-set speed limitation device is optional but is expected to be fitted to most of the cars sold so was included in the assessment.

Meanwhile the Hyundai i10 only achieved a four-star rating, with a figure of 80% for child occupancy but 79% for adult occupants, 71% for pedestrian safety and only 56% for safety assist.
