Europcar to accelerate international expansion of low-cost InterRent brand

The brand is already present in over 27 countries on 4 continents, with 119 stations in main airports and train stations, and an average fleet of 4,800 vehicles in 2014.

In line with growth in the low-cost car rental market – which is estimated to account for approximately 20% of the total car rental market in Europe – Europcar say it’s now planning on having InterRent stations in 40 countries by the end of 2015.

José María González, managing director of Europcar Spain, will manage InterRent’s international expansion in addition to his current responsibilities. Spain, one of the first countries where InterRent was launched in 2013, has rapidly become the brand’s most strategic market.

‘We have decided to focus our strategy on two brands, Europcar and InterRent, in order to clarify our brand portfolio, improve customer perception and continue to strengthen Europcar’s position in its key markets. Since our Spanish business has successfully acted as a best-in-class model to our other countries on the low-cost segment, our choice of Spain for InterRent’s offices is a sign of our ambition for this segment,’ said Philippe Germond, Europcar Group’s CEO.

The news follows the recent announcement that Europcar has acquired a majority stake in Ubeeqo, a French start-up specialising in car sharing, which forms part of its strategy to extend its mobility offering in response to its customers’ challenges, with simple, turnkey solutions.
