EV charging transaction and management platform expands into UK and Ireland
Road, a leading EV charging transaction and management platform in Europe, has expanded into the UK and Ireland to support EV growth.
The move follows a €20m (£17m / €19m) investment in Series B funding with Varo Energy as the sole investor.
Road, formerly known as E-Flux, aims to make EV charging and transactions effortless by delivering the critical infrastructure on which the EV charging ecosystem is built.
The company already claims to have a leading market position in Belgium and the Netherlands where it has a 20% market share and includes customers such as Ikea, Siemens and SMA Solar Technology. Alongside the UK, Varo’s investment has supported Road’s market entry into some of Europe’s largest economies including France and Germany.
Earlier this month, the UK hit the landmark of more than 50,000 public charge point milestones. Road will leverage its position to provide charging and transaction solutions for the growing number of facilities managers and commercial fleets adopting EV charging points in the UK.
UK commercial fleets, which are “the key to driving EV adoption rates at scale and speed” according to PwC, will be able to use Road’s ready-to-go EV charging management platform to manage their charging stations, financial transaction handling and driver support services.
James Chapman, country manager UK & Ireland at Road, said: “Our goal is to reshape the future of mobility by offering innovative solutions for electric mobility in growing EV markets. Our platform connects EV drivers to a secure, seamless charging backend, and helps charge point operators build an infrastructure designed to meet customer needs. We play a pivotal role in the EV charging ecosystem, making it easy and transparent to access, pay for and manage charging without requiring any additional setup or infrastructure.”
The company provides individual solutions for every requirement. Founded six years ago, Road offers an agnostic software platform for EV charging transactions – from charge points and charge cards – that’s said to offer settlement of charging transactions with 99.99% uptime. It’s already connected over 40,000 charge points to its platform and established a roaming charging network of 350,000 charge points.
Platform features include a 24/7 support service and over 356 brand-independent charging station integrations. The e-mobility expert also offers all-in-one and white label solutions based on individual business requirements.
“We strongly believe that electric mobility is the future, and Road will play a key role in driving electrification in the target market through innovation,” Chapman finished.
