Facelifted Infiniti Q50 to bring refreshed styling and new tech
Infiniti has unveiled its facelifted Q50, which brings updated design, a new grade structure and new technologies.
Debuted at Geneva, the 3 Series rival now differentiates between the range-topping sports grades. The ‘Sport’ grade adds performance-focused exterior design, while further enhancements and the most powerful engine appear exclusively in the ‘Red Sport 400’ grade.
Across the line-up, the Q50 features an updated front end with a revised grille and lighting signature along with updated lighting at the rear while interior updates bring leather-effect materials with double stitching around the instrument panel, a new steering wheel and leather gearstick, and new seats.
The new sport and Red Sport 400 models are further marked out with a more angular front bumper and wider, lower air intakes while the Red Sport 400 model grade brings a two-tone paint finish for the rear along with 19-inch aluminium alloy wheels. The Red Sport 400 model grade is further differentiated with red stitching throughout the cabin and quilted side inserts on the seats, as well as updated dashboard dials with matt chrome finish.
The Red Sport 400 trim also exclusively features the brand’s 400hp 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine. The engine range also includes a 208hp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit, a 168hp 2.2-litre direct-injection turbodiesel and a 360hp 3.5-litre V6 hybrid. Fuel economy figures have not been released. Drivers can specify fully-customisable Dynamic Digital Suspension, with choice of rear-wheel or Intelligent All-Wheel drive.
Other changes see the addition of the new ProPILOT Assist driver support package. Providing a forerunner to Infiniti’s future autonomous drive technologies, this includes Infiniti’s second-generation direct adaptive steering, active lane control, intelligent cruise control, distance control assist, backup collision intervention, blind spot warning and intervention and lane departure Warning amongst other systems.
Technologies also include the Infiniti InTouch Services, accessed through two touch-capacitive colour screens.
The facelifted Q50 goes on sale globally from the second quarter of the 2017 calendar year.
