Federal Express Corporation has announced plans to consolidate its UK road hub infrastructure from five hubs into two brand-new facilities.

The new hubs are expected to be operational by 2029

The plans form part of strategic improvements to the global logistics firm’s UK network that also include advanced technologies to enhance service for customers and support future growth.

The new hubs will be located close to the existing Kingsbury / Atherstone and Marston Gate sites and are expected to be operational by 2029.

Each will be able to sort 32,000 packs per hour, and process different types of deliveries for customers, including international freight and ecommerce shipments, unlocking growth for UK businesses across many sectors – including SMEs looking to trade internationally.

Rob Peto, vice president of operations, FedEx, said: “We are excited about plans to renew our hub infrastructure in the UK and commit in the creation of two new delivery hubs. This is a substantial commitment into the UK and will mean we’re well positioned for future growth with a dynamic, flexible and efficient end-to-end network. It will also present exciting opportunities for our team members over the long term and further enhance the service we deliver to our customers.”

While there are no changes for FedEx employees in the short term, the multi-year project will affect working locations for some team members across its hubs. FedEx said it would work closely with union and team member representatives on the delivery of the project to ensure team members are properly supported.

In addition to its road network, FedEx has operations at three air hubs across the UK. The company has operated in the UK since 1984 and provides a range of transportation services for businesses trading internationally and domestically.
