Ford reports decline in US fleet sales
Ford Motor sales fell by 3% in March to 235,9292 vehicles, however the firm still reported its best retail sales since 2006. Retail sales rose by 1% whilst fleet vehicle sales dropped by 13%.
In response, Fiona Cincotta, a senior market analyst at www.finspreads.com, said: “The retail consumer has a growing appetite for pricier trucks and sports vehicles with a number of factors contributing to the change in taste; namely an increase in consumer confidence, wage increases in real terms, in addition to the reduction in the price of petrol. Furthermore these changes are expected to stay for the near future as long as the price of petrol remains at its current low level.
“The decline in fleet vehicle sales was apparently due to an order timing issue, therefore with this in mind, in addition to the improving retail sales, the outlook for the coming months is strong. However investor were not so easily swayed and Ford shares are currently trading over 1.6% lower.”
