Ford has revealed its new Tourneo Courier MPV, which will launch in internal combustion engine guise later this year followed by the fully electric variant in 2024.

The van-derived five-seater is described as teaming up an SUV-inspired design and “plentiful space for passengers and their belongings within a compact city-friendly footprint”.

Full technical details are yet to be released but the model will initially be offered with a 125hp 1.0‑litre turbocharged petrol engine featuring Auto Start-Stop and an Active Grille Shutter for optimised energy efficiency and paired up with either a six-speed manual transmission, or a new seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

It will be followed next year by the fully electric version, a first for the model and one of 10 all-electric vehicles Ford has committed to offering in Europe by 2024 as it looks to achieve zero emissions across all vehicle sales in Europe by 2035.

The E-Tourneo Courier features a 136hp electric motor, giving a 91mph (145km/hr) top speed. Drivers will be able to activate one-pedal driving and select from Normal, Eco and Slippery drive modes.

Battery capacity hasn’t been announced but it will be able to charge at up to 100kW DC, giving a 10 to 80% charge in around 35 minutes. The AC onboard charger will enable a typical 7kW overnight domestic charge from 10-100% in 7.8 hours. Ford’s end-to-end home charging solution, app and scheduling capability will also ensure drivers can take advantage of cheaper energy tariffs where available.

The E-Tourneo Courier will also offer full connectivity, advanced digital experiences and over-the-air feature updates. Technology includes a ‘digiboard’ instrument panel that features a full digital instrument cluster and Sync 4 infotainment controlled via a 12‑inch touchscreen. It also comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, as well as a phone charging pad.

Practical features for the E-Tourneo Courier include a 60/40 split rear bench and over 44% more boot space than the outgoing Tourneo Courier. It also delivers improved shoulder room and headroom, as well as a range of convenient stowage options including a configurable centre console, hidden boot cubby and 44-litre ‘frunk’.

Orders for the petrol-powered Tourneo Courier will open this summer for delivery this year while the E-Tourneo Courier will be produced in Craiova, Romania, from the second half of 2024 alongside the Puma crossover.

Trim levels include Active – which comes with contrast roof colour, wheel arch mouldings, roof bars and unique seat fabrics – plus Titanium and Trend models.
