Frankfurt Motor Show: Insignia line-up to dominate Opel stand
Centrestage will be the new Insignia, which offers a line-up of power trains emitting just 99g/km CO2. The range includes two variants of the 2.0 CDTI, at 120hp and 140hp, with both delivering 3.7l/100km fuel consumption on the combined cycle, either as a four or five-door model, and complete with six-speed manual transmission and Opel’s Start/Stop system. Meanwhile the Sports Tourer model offers 3.9l/100 km and emits 104g/km CO2.
In addition, a host of chassis enhancements ensure higher agility and comfort in the new Insignia. And a completely new infotainment system generation is now available for the new model, integrating many new smart phone functions that can be operated intuitively via a touchpad in the centre console.
The top-of-the-range Insignia diesel offering is the 195hp 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI which, in four or five-door format and twinned with a six-speed gearbox, sprints from zero to 100km/h in 8.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 230km/h, whilst offering 4.7l/100km and CO2 emissions of only 125g/km.
The new Insignia BiTurbo is also available with adaptive all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission.
There are also two new direct-injection petrol/gasoline engines for four and five-door models: a 2.0-liter SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) turbo with 250hp, and the all-new generation 1.6 SIDI turbo with 170hp and efficiency figures of 5.9l/100km and 139g/km CO2.
The new Sports Tourer and its off-road relation, the all-wheel drive Insignia Country Tourer, will also make their debuts at Frankfurt while Opel’s all-new three-cylinder turbo engine will also be celebrating its world premiere at Frankfurt. The 12-valve, 1.0 turbo is the first in a new, modular family of three and four-cylinder gasoline engines in the up to 1.6-litre class and will be launched in the ADAM small car next year with an all-new six-speed gearbox.
State-of-the-art technologies such as direct injection, continuously variable valve timing, and a lightweight aluminium cylinder-block, allow the new engine family to deliver impressive fuel economy and CO2 emissions significantly lower than 100 g/km.
Opel is also planning to give a world premiere to its exciting new Monza concept car at the show while the new Cascada convertible will also be present with a 200hp version of the new 1.6 SIDI turbo engine generation, which has a top speed of 235kph.
Ian Hucker, European director of fleet and commercial vehicles, commented: ‘The Frankfurt Motor Show is always an important event on the exhibition calendar, and we will have an exciting line-up of new models at the show which are certain to be of real interest to fleet decision-makers.
‘We are sure the new Insignia will continue to be a firm fleet favourite and expect the Insignia Country Tourer to attract new customers to our brand, as it offers them a choice they have not had before at Opel/Vauxhall,’ he added.
