Frankfurt Motor Show: Smart previews new compact four-seater with fourjoy concept
The concept dispenses with doors and rear windows and just features an open roof, providing full access to the futuristic interior with rear seat bench.
Daimler AG head of design Gordon Wagener says the concept shows the character of of the new model series whilst its concept dimensions – length: 3494mm/width: 1978mm / height: 1494mm – are said to reveal a lot about the appearance of our four-seater production smart, which has been designed in partnership with Renault, which will launch its own version to replace the Twingo.
The concept features a polished full-aluminium version of smart’s trademark tridion cell, along with pearlescent white on the bumpers, front bonnet and tailgate.
Power for the concept comes in the form of a rear-drive electric powertrain, based on the current smart fortwo electric drive and using a 55kW magneto-electric motor.
The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 17.6kWh and can be fully charged from empty in seven hours at a household socket or less than one hour using the 22kW on-board charger and a rapid charging cable.
