Genesis GV60 electric crossover to bring up to 451km range
Genesis, Hyundai’s premium brand offshoot, has revealed further details of the GV60 crossover; its inaugural dedicated electric car and a linchpin of its plans for the UK and Europe.
Revealed in August, the GV60 will be the brand’s second electric car, hot on the heels of the electrified G80 saloon, and will sit below the GV70 and GV80 petrol/diesel SUVs already on sale and alongside the G70 saloon. A third electric car is also due within the year.
It’s built on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which debuts first on the Ioniq 5 SUV and is also being used for the Kia EV6.
As with the sister models, it will come in both rear- and all-wheel drive versions but like the Kia, it will only offer the larger 77.4kWh battery pack – the 58kWh battery pack is not included at this stage.
European specs have not been announced yet but details for the Korean market set out that the RWD EV60 is equipped with a 228hp motor and has a maximum range of 451km (280 miles). The AWD version features a 218hp rear-mounted motor and a 101hp motor for its front wheels, providing a total output of 318hp, a maximum torque of 605Nm, and a maximum driving range of 400km (249 miles).
At the top of the range, the performance AWD model features two 218hp motors for the front and rear wheels, delivering a total output of 435hp, maximum torque of 605Nm, and a maximum driving range of 368km (229 miles). It also includes a Boost Mode, which increases output for 10 seconds and enables a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) time of 4.0 seconds, and a Drift Mode.
Thanks to the E-GMP platform, it can support both 400V and 800V charging. Charging at 350kW with the ultra-speed charging function gives a 10-80% battery charge in 18 minutes. The GV60 can also be used as a mobile power source, using a V2L (Vehicle to Load) function that enables its battery to charge other electronic devices.
European specifications are also yet to be announced but Genesis said the EV60 introduces a next-generation infotainment system with a ccIC (connected car Integrated Cockpit) system linking clusters and navigation into a panoramic display.
The GV60 also comes with Face Connect technology, which allows the vehicle to recognise the driver’s face to lock or unlock its doors without a key, along with a Fingerprint Authentication System, over-the-air software updates, and the latest Digital Key 2, which means drivers can enter and start their car by simply touching the door handle.
The interior design of the GV60 adopts the Genesis ‘Beauty of White Space’ design ethos, maximising space and comfort, and is centred around a sphere-shaped electronic transmission control with mood lights. It also uses eco-friendly and recycled materials, such as plant-based leather for the upholstery and interior, while the seat covers and door centre trims feature fabrics using recycled PET bottles and fishnets.
The Genesis GV60 launches in the UK and Europe in 2022.
