Geneva Motor Show: Aggressive new Toyota Aygo breaks cover

It’s the third and final model from a trio which also includes the new Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108, both of which were also shown at the Geneva Motor Show. All three will be manufactured on the same production line.

Dimensions are almost identical to the outgoing car. The wheelbase is unchaged but front and rear tracks have increased and the car sits lower to improve aerodynamics and gains 25mm in length with benefits for luggage and occupant space.

Radically different to its French siblings in terms of styling, it adopts an aggressive front end design with a contrasted black X-shape encompassing the headlights and fog lights at the front end. Interior upgrades include the first use of Toyota’s x-touch connected infotainment system with social media apps.

The Aygo launches with a single 68bhp three-cylinder petrol engine, an upgrade of the unit used in its predecessor, which is available with a five-speed manual or x-shift automated manual gearbox. Economy has improved slightly, at 68.8mpg and 95g/km or 67.3mpg and 97g/km respectively.
