GM & Telogis team up for fleet telematics solution

The partnership sees Telogis integrate its telematics platform with GM’s OnStar’s proprietary application program interfaces, or APIs, to provide information about vehicles to fleet customers.

The partnership will initially just run in North America but could be deployed globally in the coming months and will provide commercial fleets with data on vehicle location, odometer, fuel consumption and other maintenance information on their GM-connected vehicles.

‘The combination of OnStar’s industry-leading, unique infrastructure and the Telogis platform will allow fleet managers to keep their vehicles running smoothly on the road,’ said Ed Peper, US vice president, GM Fleet and Commercial. ‘This is the next step in expanding our connected vehicle service offerings to help fleets operate more efficiently and identify cost savings.’

On properly equipped GM fleet vehicles, OnStar technology is integrated into the vehicle from the point of vehicle manufacture and is covered under GM’s standard bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and can be serviced at any of GM’s 4,300 US dealers.

The Telogis platform is the first set of commercial applications to utilise OnStar’s proprietary APIs announced in an online portal in early 2013.

‘By leveraging GM’s OnStar connected services infrastructure, we make it easier for customers to access our comprehensive location intelligence platform directly through any GM OnStar-equipped commercial vehicles,’ said Susan Heystee, executive vice president, worldwide sales at Telogis. ‘GM customers have easy access to powerful analytics and connected intelligence that will transform the way their business is done outside the four walls.’

The Telogis fleet telematics solution will be available in spring 2014.
