Here Technologies has opened a new R&D facility in Boulder, Colorado, USA, to further develop high-definition constantly updated mapping for autonomous vehicles.

Here’s new R&D centre will focus on developing processes to handle gathered data for updating its maps

The site will be used to work on processes that are said to “self-heal” Here’s HD Live Map, using crowd-sourced data from live car sensors to update the maps, which the company says is critical for the safety and comfort of autonomous driving.

More than 20 automotive companies are using Here HD Live Map for autonomous vehicle R&D, the company claims and is backed by several investors: Audi, Bosch, BMW, Continental, Daimler, Intel and Pioneer.

Experts in geospatial engineering, machine learning and data science will be employed at the site to work on the technology. Here is actively hiring for positions including lead and senior software engineers.
